Splash

Today I will be sharing the ideas about how to highlight some specific parts of photos leaving other parts black and white. The effect is known as SPLASH in some of the photo editing apps. Here’s an example how the final photo will look after the effect.

So let’s begin with these simple steps after opening the desired photo you want to work with.

Step 1:  On the right side of the Photoshop window you can see various collections of tools. Simply click on Black and white adjustment icon on the adjustment palette.

Soon after the click you can see that the color photo has changed into black and white. A dialog box will appear where you can adjust further. Default preset will be better for the effect shown above.

Step 2: Now grab a brush tool and paint the required areas. Adjust the size and shape of the brush for edges.

One of the problems you may face is the painting of the unwanted parts especially if you are not good at handling the mouse.  For example in the above photo I mistakenly highlighted the player wearing blue shirt. So how can I undo it?
It’s simple too.  Just press the ‘D’ alphabet. This will select the default Photoshop color. After that just paint the unwantedly highlighted areas.

The splash effect can be done through the photo editing apps too, but those apps will only highlight a unicolor. With the Pixlr Express app you will be able to highlight only red or yellow in above photo. So Photoshop will be better if u have series if colors to be highlighted.

Cheers!!!
